A Mother & Daughter Building What Burundi Was Missing

Aisha Classic Organization was founded by Mrs. Mukunzi Aisha — a counselor and women's advocate with over 15 years of experience, who witnessed firsthand across South Africa, Holland, and East Africa how African women silently carry the weight of abuse, violence, and oppression with nowhere to turn.

We exist for widows expelled from their homes, single mothers surviving alone, young women trapped in forced marriages, and survivors of gender-based violence who have never had a safe space to heal. In Burundi — one of the world's poorest countries — we are proud to be the first and only organization running a dedicated mental health program for women trauma survivors.

We do not just offer aid. We offer dignity, healing, and a new beginning.

Our Programs

Every initiative addresses a gap no one else in Burundi is filling.

🧠

Mental Health Initiative

Burundi's first NGO-run mental health program for trauma survivors — serving women living with depression, PTSD, and postpartum depression, many learning for the first time that what they experience has a name and can be treated.

⚖️

Legal Rights & Advocacy

We stand beside widows stripped of their homes, women escaping forced marriages, and survivors of domestic violence — helping them understand and reclaim their legal rights with the support of our legal collaborators.

💼

Entrepreneurship Training

We equip women with business skills, financial literacy, and vocational training — including tailoring, English language classes, and trade skills — building pathways to economic independence and employment across East Africa.

🍚

Humanitarian Aid

Direct food distribution and emergency support to the most vulnerable women and families in our registry of 800+ beneficiaries — because no one can focus on growth when survival is uncertain.

👩‍👧

Youth Empowerment

We invest in young women early — educating them on their rights, their worth, and their potential before circumstances force them into impossible choices. Many of our volunteers are young survivors themselves.

🎓

Seminars & Conferences

We host regional conferences and public seminars — bringing together psychologists, counselors, religious leaders, and advocates from across East Africa to break stigma and build awareness around women's mental health.

Stories That Changed Everything

"I was 19 years old when my life fell apart. A survivor of rape, I became pregnant — and my own family turned their backs on me and my child. I had nowhere to go and no one to turn to. Aisha Classic Organization took me in, restored my dignity, and gave me employment and a future. Today I am 20 years old and I am no longer ashamed of my story."
